A method for the preparation of agarose from Difco bacto agar by means of electrolysis was developed. The method was established by analyzing the product for the following properties: gel strength, viscosity, gelling temperature, melting temperature. sulfate, 3,6-anhydrogalactose content, and electroendoosmotic value. The agarose produced has a gel strength of about 900 g/cm2 with a very low sulfate content of about 0.2% which makes it favorable for use in gel electrophoresis of proteins.Downloads
