About the Journal

About the Journal

KIMIKA is the professional journal of the Kapisanang Kimika ng Pilipinas, Inc. (KKP). It publishes results of scientific research to serve and promote the chemistry profession and allied fields. It publishes peer-reviewed works on the broad spectrum of chemistry research and chemistry education as full articles, short communications, reviews or opinions.

Peer Review Process

The KIMIKA refereeing system adopts a three-stage evaluation process:

  1. Initial Assessment: Upon receipt, each submitted manuscript is subjected to an appraisal for adherence to the scope and objectives of the journal, the technical soundness of the paper and the submission requirements. This is done by the editor and usually takes 3-5 days. It may be returned to the author for revision or endorsed for the double-blind peer review.
  2. Double Blind Peer Review: A manuscript that complies with the initial assessment is sent to 2-3 peer reviewers for a double-blind review process. The reviewers are determined by the editor or field editor and given 2-6 weeks to evaluate the manuscript following a set of KIMIKA Reviewer’s Guidelines. Comments and suggestions of least two referees are consolidated and sent to the authors for appropriate action. The author is given 2-8 weeks to revise and resubmit the manuscript. The revised manuscript undergoes final scrutiny by the editor ensuring that the comments and suggestions of the referees are addressed and appropriate revisions are incorporated in the revised manuscript. If comments were not addressed, the manuscript will be returned to the reviewers for the second round of review. Otherwise, the editor decides to accept the manuscript.
  3. Editorial Evaluation: The accepted manuscript is subjected to final language editing by the editor and a galley proof is generated following the prescribed journal format. The proof is sent to the author for his/her final review. A paper cannot be published until all the details in the proof have been checked and the final format is approved by the author. Once ready, a DOI will be assigned to the paper following the Crossref® guidelines of the Publishers International Linking Association (PILA). The manuscript is then uploaded in the current issue of the KIMIKA website

Ethical Guidelines
